Get to know us.
OrbitalMed serves the commercial spaceflight community through the management of all health-related issues associated with spaceflight. The company was formed in 2022 to provide the flight certification of commercial astronauts visiting Low Earth Orbit (LEO) through both sub-orbital and extended orbital missions. The Company was founded by doctors Robert Satcher, MD, Ph.D, and Bernard Harris, MD, both former NASA astronauts with the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs. These leaders have leveraged their medical training and spaceflight experience to provide a new generation of space travelers with the medical expertise that ensures a safe spaceflight and enhances the on-orbit experience.
OrbitalMed guides the commercial space flyer through the pre-flight certification process, provides on-orbit medical counseling for zero-g remediations, and post-flight acclimation to Earth’s gravity. Through pre-flight, flight, and post-flight medical surveillance, OrbitalMed will enable commercial space travelers to perform at their best during the mission and enjoy the unique experience of spaceflight.
Traveling can be tough on the body, especially when you’re traveling to space.
Flying into space involves various hazards that, when properly managed, can be mitigated leading to a productive and beneficial time in Earth orbit.
Whether the mission is a short, sub-orbital flight or an extended stay aboard a space station, the crewmember will be exposed to new hazards in a remote location, away from the usual medical support infrastructure that we enjoy on the planet’s surface.
OrbitalMed is there throughout the entire journey to ensure your space travelers enjoy a safe ride to space and back home.
